Director's Statement: The idea for Melt Music grew out of three creative interests. I had been wanting to shoot on film, experiment with special effects makeup and make a movie about superfan culture. The main character’s obsession was partly inspired by my own fascination with digging through thrift stores, trying to unearth a CD from a forgotten local band.
When I was accepted into the Super 8 Incubator workshop at the Winnipeg Film Group, it felt like the perfect opportunity to bring these ideas together. The program encouraged experimentation, and I saw it as a chance to challenge myself both technically and creatively.
Melt Music became a way to combine these interests into a single project, embracing the unpredictable qualities of shooting on film with practical effects to tell a story about obsession and its melty consequences.
