Director's Statement: It took me four rounds of applications before I received the funding to make this woman-led genre short. I was determined to make it happen - because I love all things horror, because I am obsessed with food, but especially because I was hellbent on making this film my way: with an all women and non-binary cast and crew. Which by the way, was not difficult at all - there are a LOT of talented women and gender diverse folk in our industry.

I had a very specific vision of HOW I wanted to make this film: in a cabin on Lake Manitoba, over three days, where I would cook for everyone, and where we would all crash at the end of the work day; just a big sleepover. A small set where the actors would do their own hair and makeup. Where we would sit on the beach during our breaks and watch the sunset at night. Where our DOP Laina, who was nearly seven months pregnant at the time, would feel empowered to work and rest when she needed to. I wanted the actual process of making art to be enriching for everyone involved, to harken it back to when we made films with friends as kids.

In the end, I couldn't handle the cookery so my mother came to set with us and made sure we always had a hot meal ready. All in all, it was the most wonderful filmmaking experience I've had, and I'm very proud that I made it happen. I hope our film inspires people to make their next film their way.
